Anyone have any experience with this?

Have been battling this for months now on my horse (recently found out it was staph). He was scoped and had the sensitivity testing done, and we used the most potent drug possible called Naxcel at the highest dosage for 9 days. He has been off the antibiotic for 6 days, and the symptoms are back. So we will do another round of Naxcel and cough suppressant. The vets are cautiously optimistic. His outcome looks promising, but it may take some $ and time to get there. Curious of any other's experiences.

This infection is extremely resilient! We are going to do 14 days penicillin, and see where we are at.

Have you used LA200? I've used it IV x 4 days slow drip with good results. Must be patient with your drip as it binds the Ca in the blood and they can get a little weak feeling. I've seen a vet have a horse go down by pushing it.  Gentocin has worked for us too. We give it IV x 4-5 days.
Naxcel has worked great in our show goats but not so much in the horses?

Uno-Dos-Tres, thank you for your input. The vet had not suggested the LA200 or any sort of IV drip. The horse is still being stabled at my farm, would this be something you would take the horse and leave it at the clinic. I just want to do the best we can for this horse!

You can do tis talk to your vet first. But go very slow IVP or get a bag of fluids and mix your LA200 within and do a drip.
