I had emergency surgery last fri nite for a femoral that pop out fri morning. I was wondering if anyone else has had this and what their lay up time was? I go back to the doc on fri and hoping I can go back to work next week.

It sounds like something Hotbearlvr needs to answer.
Was it your femoral artery?
Actually sounds kinda dangerous!

No it didn't get the artery or the intestine, I was lucky there. It was the fatty tissue around the intestines that popped through. They had to take a scope through an area by belly button, fill the that area with gas to get very low down in my groin to see what popped out. Then took another scope at the hernia and went in and fixed it. The hernia site hardly hurts, it is the stomach area that is tender and still some what swollen. Just wondering if someone else had this done and how long before my stomach area goes back down.
I don't have any fat pants that fit and I'm running around in sweat pants.
So this is my pity party.

It used to be that you were told to refrain from lifting anything over about 20 lbs for a month after a hernia repair and that you were not to drive until you were completely pain free and off pain meds.
Now, with laparoscopic hernia repair and new techniques using mesh, there is very little tension on the repair, so the risk of recurrence is very low and the pain is minimal and short-lived.
I would tell people after laparoscopic surgery
(including hernia
) that they should take it easy for a few days - and they can return to work whenever they feel up to it, provided they no longer require narcotics.
I tell them to avoid lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk in each arm for a week, and to be sensible as far as extreme exertion for a month. In other words, don't go to the gym and do power lifting or don't do downhill skiing! You can still get incisional hernias at the port insertion sites from excessive straining. I didn't do hernia repairs laparoscopically because I did almost all of them under local anesthesia with sedation. Most of the time they were back at work within a few days to a week, at the most. The reason we tell people not to drive until they are totally pain free off narcotics is because a person might hesitate to hit the brakes abruptly when they need to, because of pain, and wind up in an accident.
You should just follow your doc's recommendations.
