Please make sure your horses are "tucked in tight" (i.e. broken fences, unlatched gates, etc.) whenever you can. One of our neighbor's horses was just hit on the highway. A very sad sight to have to see and for passersby. Please say a prayer for them & the horse during this time.

And another safety reminder-if you tie your horse at a stall do not tie it to the door. Doors come off hinges/rollers, etc. Someone learned at Lucky Dog's barrel race in Texarkana that a door on rollers does come off.

Last thing I do each and every time before I leave the barn is double check everybodys stall door's and paddock gates before I head to the house. I'm anal about double checking everything.

Me too! In fact, I had to mentally walk through closing all my gates last to make sure I'd latched all the chains and handles when I read this. I keep at least one thick chain on every gate and most gates have a little "trick" to them that keeps the creative ponies from opening them for me.

I'm also very careful about this. I've been known to get up in the middle of the night and go out in my pajamas to make sure I closed a gate haha
