We had a two day youth rodeo this week end. My daughter's super consistent horse was not his normal self. He warmed up rough and when he went in he broke the pattern in two events. We have had him for 2 years and he has never even hit a barrel much less broke the pattern. I was getting worried.....something had to be hurting him for him to be acting like this.
Well, before I went over him with a fine tooth comb. I noticed that one side of his bit was not swiveling as it should. It was stuck pointing up and had the bit hitting the top of his mouth..... Switched bits for day two and he ran awesome.

Also, on day two with the new bit, my daughter is already a little nervous running in a new bit, just as she takes off down the alley one side of the reins came unclipped. Don't know how that happens. Maybe she did not have it on there good, freak accident, or what ever. We get the horse under control (prob. harder getting my daughter calmed down to ride than the horse), and he goes on to have a good run.

It was also in the 30's and raining the whole time, but we still had a great weekend spending time with family and friends enjoying time spent together.

So how was ya'll weekend?

Thank goodness it was an easy equipment fix and not something wrong with the horse.  I am impressed that your daughter was able to 'get over it'.  She's a cuti.  This weekend was as cold as it was last year at Andy's clinic!

So glad to hear that you were able to find such an easy and quick answer to your problem! That kiddo is yours of pretty gritty. Cold, nasty, rainy and to have all of that go wrong and then go on to have a nice run, I'm very impressed!

Thanks for the kind words. It was cold that weekend. I bet WrapSnap thought he was getting away from the cold when he came to Texas. I had not been around horses/rodeo much until a couple of years ago when my kids started riding. So I try to pick up info where ever I can. I am still using one of the drills I got from WrapSnap with the kiddos.
