Matt and I were looking at schedules for rodeos the rest of this spring and found a few at Humansville, MO that are Boll Weevil Livestock rodeos. Looking at their website, they have been Ozark Rodeo Association & AFRA approved in the past. We've never been to either of those associations and he doesn't like to enter rodeos w/out having a good idea of what the bucking horses are like. He's still recovering from wrist surgery so won't be riding for another month or two, but they have one this Saturday and I thought about entering it so we could have an excuse to go scout the bucking horses. However, it's a little over 2 hours from his place so I want to have an idea what I'm getting into if I call in. I've heard nothing but good things about the indoor at Humansville but am curious about everything else. Anyone been to one of these deals and have info on the payout, attendance history & competition level?

That's an odd name for something in that part of the world, considering a boll weevil is a cotton pest.

It should be named something to do with punkins.

OK. LOL. :) I can draw some conclusions from that.
Are they at least run fairly? Decent payout for the fees?

I went to one a few years ago and it was terrible. BUT, I feel like I heard something changed in the past year or two. Maybe new management, but I'm not sure.

Their broncs were mounting each other in the catch pens. And they were nearly pony sized. We had to wait for maybe 30 minutes while they found the guy who has the tractor keys when it was time for barrel racing. (They did drag every 10 or so... I think.)

I wouldn't waste your time unless you find someone who has been recently and tell you if they've smartened up.

Oh wow. That sounds like a mess. Exactly what I would want to avoid. The website says the same family has run it since 2010.
We have some good open rodeos in Kansas though I have certainly been to some really crappy ones......the ones where you just sit back and laugh at the stupid things that happen. Granted, I did go to an association show a few years ago where they had to hunt down the tractor driver, then spent 20 minutes looking for the keys, then the guy ran the tractor into the ambulance. I sat there on my horse just laughing at the sheer insanity of what I was seeing. No one in my family believed me when I told them about it later.
