Expert Posts: 1261	I often see stallions offering discounts to proven performers what is the general concensus on what it takes to be considered proven? A certain dollar amount of earnings? If so what's significant? Or Rodeo futurity, 1D at big races etc? Can a solid 3D horse with $3k or more earnings be proven or is this just reserved for 1D horses with high $ earnings?

The Advice Guru Posts: 6419	I wouldn't consider a 3d horse with any earnings proven as it is a lottery. Proven, I would say 1d money earning, futurity/derby finalist, futurity/derby money earner

Proven barrel horse---one that has done well in futurities with significant winnings or consistent 1D winner with documented earnings. This does not mean the horse has run in the 1D one time. Proven producer---an individual whose offspring have significant earnings in barrels or on the track. Proven running horse----speed index above a certain number (most stallion owners use 90 as a quality SI).

Veteran Posts: 212	If you mean for a mare I was told by several stallion owners that the mare needs 10K or more in equistat earnings. I had already specified this was a 1d horse so I do not know if the 3d earnings would count.

You get what you give Posts: 13030 Location: Texas	Every stallion owner is different. I have one who was approved for a proven mare discount and she just had local 1D earnings. Other big name stallions have requirements for how much $$ off on the stud fee based on equistat earnings or produce earnings of that dam.. Just depends I guess on how high caliber the stallion is and what type of mare they are looking for.
