Had one of ours tested for EPM, came back fairly high 64-8-8 so we are treating him for that, but he also tested positive for Lyme.  Just wondering what the symptoms for Lyme disease in horses are and how it is treated, I have zero experience with it.

Google it. There are some interesting articles on it.
Main symptoms:
Joint Stiffness
Muscle soreness
Sensitivity to touch
Depression

ETA: Hope your horse doesn't have either of these and he/she comes out of this ok!!

It is VERY common here and I've dealt with it on many horses. They symptoms vary, but one thing I noticed on all of them was that they seemed to have less energy than what I thought they should. One had a random lameness for a few days in a hind leg, one that was usually spunky was riding like a pleasure horse, one just lacked "fire"--there were no major signs, other than knowing the horses well.

I've had many friends who have had random little issues like these, and they tested and the results were positive as well.

The best treatment has been a week tetracycline (iv) followed by two months of doxycycline. Without the tetra, it didn't fully go away. With the tetra first, in all of them I noticed a clear difference after only a couple of days. All horses came back like rock stars.

Good luck!

Thank you!

I honestly think he has had it for quite a while, it's been a long time since he has looked healthy.  I tested him for EPM back in January and he was negative, but I didn't test for Lyme.  I only decided to test him again because even after almost 4 months of turnout and changing his feed to Renew Gold (which helped him put on quite a bit of weight) he was still so unhappy and grouchy.  He actually ran at my seven year old son and tried to bite him for no reason at all other than my son walked across his pasture to go next door.

Thanks so much for the info on the antibiotics, sounds like it may be a while but I am more hopeful he will make a complete recovery.

It's pretty common in MN. My friend has had a horse and dogs come up positive. The one horse that was normally very laid back became very skittish about everything and started bucking.  It effects the nervous system much like EPM.
