Location: Spokompton, Wa | I am hoping someone can help me with the technicalities of Lyme Disease. I'll probably sound like a dummy when I explain as I am not. Sorry in advance. Just looking to see if I get a different answer or feedback then what the vet gave me. Google is not helping. :)
I've been dealing with muscle soreness in my colt. Took him in for a blood panel including lyme disease to rule that out. Vet told me was unlikely as not in our region. But three antigens (antibodies) were tested. Osp A antigen came back positive. Osp C and D were negative. Vet told me this was not a concern since the other two were negative.
I am having a heck of a time getting my horse over this. Done massage, chiro, lameness exam, PSSM diet and nothing is working. Received magnesium today. See if that helps. Although his blood panel was normal.
I know what the vet told me but I am wondering if this is something that very well could be affecting him? Just curious if anyone has dealt with this as well. |

Go to whole grains and the best quality forage you can get your hands on. I, and many others, have had great success with the Cur-OST products after spending thousands at the vet and on various medications. Location: Minnesota | We pulled 75 ticks off a yearling I rescued and the vet treated him for lymes. His back legs were really stocked up and he moved really stiff. We did 2 doses of exceed and he's shown no other symptoms..not sure if that would help you or not |

| As someone who deals with the effects of lyme disease everyday, I would absolutely get advice from a second vet. Ticks are everywhere! They attach themselves to birds and other animals that fly or whatever from state to state. Also the ticks can carry several different diseases, like lyme, bartonella and piroplasmosis all in one little tick. I don't know about horses but piroplasmosis is like babesia which I also have and causes me a lot of muscle pain but you would have to have him tested for it separately. The AQHA has labs that they suggest you use for testing for piroplasmosis, but I would recommend Cornell University for testing for lyme. They have really good test and testing procedures. My lyme literate doctor that I see considers one positive band as positive because you or an animal would not be producing antibodies if there was nothing there. Also for treating it I would suggest IV oxytetracycline, I don't think they will absorb enough of the doxycycline when given orally. Good Luck its a horrible disease! |
