What is the best way to get rid of rain rot. I have a colt with it all over his body. He has one of the big sores, the rest are just thousands of tiny scabs all over him. We have tried Iodine baths and picking scabs but it hasn't worked. Also it's about 50 degrees so too cold for baths.

If it's bad enough just skip the pain and call your vet. A round of antibiotics will help immensely for a bad case. Sometimes they'll even give you a topical cream also.
I fought with mine for over a month and finally broke down and gave him meds, and it cleared up pretty quickly.

Last winter it rained and rained here and it wasn't very cold so all of mine got it. I started mixing Listerine and water and spraying it on about 2-3 a day and it helped. But it didn't completely go away until I could give them medicated baths with stuff I got from the vet.

Yep, as much as I hate to give penicillin, it works on bad rain rot like nothing else will. I think we give 60ccs a day for five days but it has been a while since we have had a bad rain rot case, check with your vet. I also like the fungus ointment from Absorbine, Fungasol is what I think it is called.

The only thing that cleared mine up was a round of penicillin injections for 5 days - continued the medicated baths and soaks but had been doing that for weeks with no significant results so the penicillin is what turned it around
