No I want everything "warmed up" before and "cooled down" after.

No. You don't want everything tight from being iced before a run. Muscles, tendons and ligaments need to be able to move and stretch accordingly or they'll tear. If they're tight, a simple maneuver can be devastating because the normal range of motion is inhibited. You warm up before a run to prevent injury by getting everything warm and loose.

No. It doesn't even make sense to ice before a run. A horse needs to be warmed up and loose before a run to prevent injury. Have you ever tried to go for a run without warming up your legs first?

On the track they all Ice a few hours before a race. Their reasoning is to numb any soreness and bring down heat. I would for sure not ice close to a run, like other posters have said, getting everything warm and loose is more helpful for barrel horses. This especially important when it's cold and damp out, because even I feel stiff then.

that is why I was confused because I knew the track ice before. I haven't been icing before I always thought warm before and cold afterwards. Thanks
