Location: Wyoming | Looking to purchase a tailbag for a very dirty, light colored horse. I haven't used tailbags in the past due to them restricting them from fighting against flies. What brands have you tried and what are you favorites?

| I've been using the tail boot the past couple weeks to protect his tail from the mud, etc. I have to admit, I was ready to send it back, as I just couldn't figure out how to put it on, and get it to fit right, but now I love it. I obviously don't have the "tail" on right now. I leave it in a week at a time, and take it out. I have attached a picture of what his tail looks like after a week. On Sundays, I take out the braid, put coconut oil in his tail and braid it back up. It hasn't been that long, but I really like it so far!

| I like the ones that you run the hair through and then braid, usually called braid in tail bags or three tube tailbags. I've used them for years. |

Ditto on the tailboot! Won't use anything else. Nothing I have used have kept tails as clean and soft as the tailboot. For the money I think its the best thing out there. Bought 1 to try last year on a 2 year old that whipped her tail off (very brittle) and can't get over the results. She spent her day in the pasture and never lost it once. (Just the switch one time and I found it and put it back on.) |

Location: Where the buffalo roam | Tail boots are awesome. I have left mine in for over a month in the snow and mud and when I take them down they are still soft from whatever conditioner I have used and really clean. They don't knot up at the top like a regular tail sack.
The only issue I have had is that my geldings thought the fly swisher on my mares boot was a great tug-o-war toy so it got ripped off in the first week! (it's attached with velcro so no tail or boot damage). She doesn't do payback so his is still just fine after two years of using it. Due to this, I usually don't use mine in the summer since she can't have one with the tail on it (boys just can't have nice things!!)
The new ones are supposed to be easier to put on. |
