House training pups (specifically Dacshunds)

BHW friends, I need some help. I was gifted a male mini Doxie back in October. He is now 10 weeks old, and we are struggling with house training. I know that this breed has a rep for being hard to house break.. We are currently crate training and he doesn't potty in it, so thats good. However, I will take him out and take him directly to the yard for several minuets and sometimes he will not "go" but goes as soon as we come back in. I don't remember ever having this much trouble house training one. I know that he is still very young. If you guys have tips please drop them below :
) Thanks in advance!

Do you have a fenced yard or are you having to hand walk ? High praise for going outside. If he doesn't go when you go out then back in the crate for about 10 minutes and go out again. Keep doing this until he goes. then high praise. They do not learn the deal right off. Males are a little harder than females. When he learns to hike his leg and finds his spot it will get easier. As far as poop it is pretty much we eat and soon we poop. It will take patients and dedication on your part. Good luck some learn by 3 months some as much as a year. Don't give up and let it go or he may never learn to hold it. Also I have a pop can tied to the door and mine jingle it to go out.

Thanks so much for the tips! Very cool idea with the soda can!

Weenie pups can be tough to train...mine is 10 and it took a long time to get her to consistently let me know she needs to go out. I do still keep a puppy pad by the door at night in case she gets up during the night and doesn't tell me she needs to go. It rarely gets used. But when the weather is bad...it just might because she does not want to potty in the rain! lol
Most important thing is consistency. If you have a scheduled routine that will help.
