Today is
Mare with life long coughing (7years old) year round. Sounds like she has mucous in her throat latch area when she coughs which causes labored breathing. Takes a while for her to recover and breathing to slow down when I run her. I've had her scoped, BAL ran twice. Have tried dex, breathing treatments with a nebulizer, immunotherapy, ventipulmin, wind-aide, etc. Prednisolone is the only thing that helps with coughing and I don't want to keep her on it. Was told about CEP and wanted to get some reviews (good or bad) from people who are actually using it. No Reps please.
Try removing hay for a month or two and feed soaked cubes or a complete feed instead to see if you get improvement. When you do remove the hay treat with a tapering course of dex for a couple weeks. Hay is 99% of the cause for Equine asthma/ heaves issues. Even good hay! If you do get improvement I would stop feeding hay in the future.
She currently gets a small flake of alfalfa in the morning and is out on pasture at night. Just switched her to Renew Gold. What type of soaked cubes should I try and how long do you soak cubes before feeding? Thanks!
Oh that's great! It'll be easy to try her off of hay since she's practically on pasture already. If she's getting a small flake, I'd weigh out 3 lbs of alfalfa cubes and soak with in warm/ hot water for an hour or so. The warmer water really helps them soften sooo much faster.
BUMP
No review on the CEP but have you tried MVP AirWay EQ? Might be a good one to try
