Wondering if anyone has had experience with Stifle OCD's, and if surgery was done was it successful? Unsuccessful? Was there still maintenance after surgery? Just kinda wondering what to expect moving forward with this. Going to X-ray again in a couple month to see where we are at, and go from there. Thank you in advance for any advice/tips with this issue.
Depends on how bad it is. I had one last year that had screws put in OCD's that appears will go ahead and compete with periodic injections. The other 2 that had screws put in have chronic soreness. I have had a couple that had Winstrol injected 1-2 times along with rest , both started out with grade 2 OCD's . They improved but still had soreness. OCD's in hocks don't scare me, but stifle OCDs do, they can be buggers.
Thank you! They didn't tell me the grade, and I asked. Probably a 2.
I'm not sure if I qualify it as successful or not. He requires injections every three months when ridding hard, but he can be ridden. Probably won't hold up long term.
Thank you for the info
A lot has to do with who does the surgery. My trainer had surgery on one of her futurity horses probably 35 years ago. That sucker won everything on the East Coast. When he was 19 or 20 some friends took him to the NBHA world show. They double velcroed the tiny little girl on him and he ran in the 1D. He was one mean running machine. An important thing that my vet told me is that if they are over 4 years old they are not a candidate for surgery as they have stopped growing and it will not grow back.
