Location: Viola, IL | I just recently purchased a used saddle, when I got it, it was caked in dust/dirt. I'm not sure when the last time was that it had been cleaned, much less oiled. I've conditioned/cleaned it 3 times, and it's still dirty/dry/a mess. I've never dealt with anything like this before, as I usually purchase my saddles new. (I got a great deal on this one, otherwise I wouldn't have.) What do you guys do for your saddles? It also has an ostrich seat, that is pretty dry, is there a different process for this?
Any help is greatly appreciated! |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I've just tried Mink Oil and it is outstanding. I think it will darken tack, but everything I have put it on, that was ok and I love how it makes it look rich and healthy again. |

I like it too, but it will darken a lite oil saddle.
I like the Passier leather conditioner for a light colored saddle. It works well. |

Location: NC | I use a hand held plastic bristle dish brush like this ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Kitchen-Wash-Tool-Pot-Pan-Dish-Bowl-Palm-Brush-Scrubber-Cleaning-Cleaner-/360810661910 ) or a toothbrush for harder to reach places, Fiebing's yellow bar saddle soap and a lot of water. I usually try to do it when I can use the water hose but have, to my husbands delight, used the shower head in the bathtub. after I scrub it REALLLLLY good taking all the parts off. I let it start to dry and then really oil it well. I had one saddle that was sooooo dry you could literally see the oil absorb in. it started much darker around the edges and stayed lighter towards the middle. I just kept putting more and more oil until it finally turned all one color. it was a week long project but well worth it. I used Caldwell's Miracle oil.
Not sure about the seat though... |
