Anyone have any experiences with equine flu???  My horse was vacinated for it in January, we went to a weekend show this past weekend and came home with the flu. Took her to the vet had her swabbed to make sure this is what she has and it came back positive for EI1 and now everyone in the barn has it.  How long does it last?  Thanks in advance

Ask your vet.

Dealt with rhino, had to have my affected horses in quarinteen for 2 months also couldn't ride them for 2 months.

You asked how long it lasts, this is something you have to ask your vet, and when you can start riding them again.

With rhino they shed their entire trachea lining and you can't ride them until they have done this. Not sure if influenza is the same.

vet said i can start back riding after they are fever free for 1 week, it just concerns me if I start them back too soon it will cause a relapse and the symptoms could worsen.  I feel bad for them you can tell they feel horrible and vet says it just has to run it's course. Thanks for your reply

If that's what my husbands mare got at the trainer, he was off of her 15 days after getting her the antibiotic. The trainer didn't tell us she had been sick until 2 weeks after the fact. He kept riding her the entire time. We brought her to the vet then home and she went into quarantine for the 15 days. Noone else on my place has gotten it. Im paranoid and keep my horses away from strange horses when I go places. And mine were on AE Detox. Now their on Fasttrack. I feel that helps too.

Thanks Jazz..... we went to our NBHA state show and had to stall for the weekend and feel that is where the exposure came from, she started showing symptoms on Monday after returning on Sunday evening so we loaded up and went to the vet, she tested positive and my others on my place were already exposed to her. My big deal is I dont want to get back on too soon she has the cough where my other ones do not... Thanks for the reply it gives a little insight to how much time I will be off as we have shows every weekend.
mine are also on Formula 1 and Animal Element
