Location: Greencastle PA | Hello, i was wondering if anyone could help me out? I have a couple of questions. I just had my 3 year old gelded he had one testicle up inside and 1 down, he is doing very good. How long is the recovery time and when can I spray him lightly with a hose to clean him up. It will be a week on Wednesday? Thanks |

| call and ask your vet that did the surgery. They will know the horse, the sutures, and what is going on best.

| you need to keep the incision open so it can drain. Yes, you can gently hose off. If it was a straight castration they shouldn't have sutures. Our pony was a crypt and it was WAY up there. He closed and got infected. I put him on antibiotics and just washed him with warm water. I was able to re open the holes and he started draining again. Didn't have anymore problems and he healed fine. |

I had one done yrs ago in Jan. It got so cold and he swelled really bad the next day. I was told to make sure and exercise him so I lunged him at a slow trot a couple times a day. I hated to make him move after that kind of surgery, but the swelling went down fairly fast. He healed pretty fast, it was back in '95 so I can't begin to remember when he was good to go. |

| Be sure to turn him out and let him romp around. That will open it up and help it heal. Hose it, and as long as it is open, draining, then he will heal fine. |
