I'm wondering what everyone's opinion of this bit is, from people that have actually used one. What is it for and what will it help with.  I was thinking maybe it would help my big strong gelding with lift and whoa when needed, he's a free runner. I've found alot of info online about how cruel they are to the horses mouth. But Charmayne has this bit in her line. OPINIONS PLEASE.

Not my choice

Any bit can be harsh in the wrong hands

If you are wanting rate I would look at a grasshopper in either a 3 piece or chain mouth.

I find with a single break some horses can evade the pressure

We show gaited horses in this bit usually. It's not quite got the feel I would want in any barrel horse I run, but If I had one that was REALLY flexy, this will really stand them up. Or at least, it does in gaited horses, makes them stay straight.

I don't think this is what you want from the sounds of it. I would maybe go single twisted wire pozzi long shank lifter? I think that would get you more of the lift and whoa you are looking for.

Second that, not my choice of bits. L&W makes lifer bits. And check out professionals choice pozzi collection, as well as their derby collection. And classic equine just came out with a long shank lifter designed by Carroll goostree.

Thanks ya'll. I definately don't need this horse stiffer or straighter.

I find less is more. I try to stay with a shorter shank bit and make sure that mine are good and head broke at whatever stag they are in.

Maybe look at the Molly Powell Solid Run bit - it has a chain mouth and comes in a medium or longer shank. I have the longer shank for my horse (he tends to get strong and be more of a free runner) and it has plenty of bend and whoa and enough lift.
