Location: My own little world :) | I have some questions as I am totally not knowledgable on this.... There are so many rookie girls this year at the NFR it seems like. So my question is..how does that work? Do you have to fill your permit the year before? Or can you fill your permit and then just go for it? How does getting your permit work? And do the larger rodeos take people that are working to fill their permits or more of just the higher profile/earning girls? Hypothetically, if you wanted to get to the NFR your rookie year how do you get to participate in the really big rodeos that are at the beginning of the year? Wouldn't you need those to accrue enough earnings? Thank you for all of your input and if you have more to add about the process I would love to hear what you have to say :) |

| You can buy your card at anytime after you fill your permit. The new year starts in October. Most girls wait for the following year to get a full season. But if you fill it in October or November, you may as well get the card. Once you fill your permit, you either have to buy your card or buy another permit if you want to keep going. The PRCA is a lot different than the WPRA with how they handle permits.
As for getting into big rodeos, it just depends. Cheyenne takes all card holders. Denver is limited but if you are doing well you could get in. The only ones that are really difficult to get into are Houston and Calgary. If you win Co Springs, you get a hole in Houston. |

There are actually only two girls that are actual rookies, Jackie and Vickie. This is there first year to have a WPRA card. But there are several girls that are at the NFR for the first time, many are calling them rookies simply because of that. Some of these girls have had their WPRA card for a few years now. |

So you can put off buying your card to save your rookie status. |

So you could have a full year as a rookie. You rookie year starts when you buy your card. The year runs October to October. So say you fill your permit by July and then you buy your card, you only have July thru October as your rookie year instead of a full 12 months. |
