We have a meeting to appeal our increase on property tax... it has been steadily increasing the past years and I think it's just too high.. we have done a lot to the inside of our house but not a lot to the outside... what are the best points to make? We have a list of comparable homes in our area but to me, it's hard to tell what to argue...

I live in one of the highest taxed counties in KS, & our property tax seemed out of whack. I believe I had tried to refinance mine, & had a relatively new appraisal of our property & appealed the taxes. It wasn't a "big production" deal, I simply took my information with me & explained my view on it. There was only one person I was meeting with, rather informal, she took my information & reviewed it later & they adjusted the value. That was a few years ago, so I don't know if the process has changed or not!!

In TX they appraise by the number of square feet. A two story house would not appraise as high as a 1 story with eh same number of square feet

Wishing you luck! I am trying - into the third year -- to get our shop and horse barn moved to the correct parcel of land. And now they have our new home on the wrong parcel. I have been repeatedly told it has been corrected, but got my tax statement last week. No, it is STILL wrong. I now have copies of my parcel cards and Google earth snapshots and I guess I will be headed to a county equalization board meeting soon.

The parcel they placed our buildings on is in the city limits. The buildings are ALL located on a parcel NOT in the city limits. It's a mess that no one in that office can seem to understand and fix.

The properties around me, large $$ homes have been built, jacking my property taxes up. One year they took away my agg exemption and I had to go down there and protest. Didn't bring any thing. Just said I couldn't afford over doubling my tax rate. The guy helped me to fill out form and I got my agg exempt back.
