What do you do to correct a horse with flat feet and thin soles?
Would you leave the soles alone and cut toe off only? Do you do anything with the heel?
Any type of shoe that helps?
Thanks!

You cannot correct thin soles. They may get better with proper maintenance but there is no quick fix. You can get a paint on hoof hardener which may help some.
So, you need to find a good farrier
(good luck with that, harder and harder to come by
). I would suggest not taking much heel off and just trimming the toe. I would think you'd want to use soft rubber pads and steel shoes. But with the use of pads you'll want to keep a timely farrier appointments because if old pads are left on too long, they'll build up moisture and that's no good either.

You also cannot correct flat feet. This is a genetic condition. You can use pads on thin soles.

The "flat" look that you are seeing is most likely due to underrun heels. Pull the heels and toe back and this will correct itself if dealt with properly. For this soles, use a good hoof supplement and/or pads.

The gelding I ride is flat footed. He has no issues as long as he is shod. He is actually in just plain old kegs. When I first brought him home from the track we pulled his shoes and tried barefoot, but it just will not work for him.

I put shoes on my mare with flat feet. When I trim her I only take off from the toe and I leave the heel alone for the most part. She does fine this way.

My flat footed guy has to wear wedged pads with a steel keg shoe. We tried barefoot and it just didn't work.
