Assuming you mean hypothyroid. Easy keeper, cresty neck, often have an enlarged thyroid which may not be very obvious, increased thirst, inability to sweat. The best way to diagnose is a blood test. As far as I know the only treatment is Thyro L. I have one horse whois on Thyro L now. His thyroid was so slightly enlarged that I did not see it. I felt like a crappy horse owner for not noticing it but I doubt that it had been enlarged longer than a week or so. We call my horse lardo. I put him on a diet and Thyro L mid June and he has probably lost 50 pounds. He should have a little more gas in his tank when I get his thyroid lined out. You really need to have a blood test to determine how much Thyro L to give because it can vary. Also Thyro L requires a prescription.

Never noticed sore feet. Lardo drinks water like a camel. Has a thick create neck and has an enlarged thyroid. I was looking at him today and his thyroid has gone down. He as been on Thyro L for about two months. I am sure he will probably have to have it the rest of his life.

I have another horse that is my non sweater that was on Thyro L for years but he has never been fat.

We blood tested my old mare after a history of female issues and then shed out almost bald. No cresty neck, no feet issues. She was getting 3 scoops of Thyrid from the time she was diagnosed at 8 years old until she died early this summer at age 30. She also sweat like a pig, more so than my other horses, but that WAS with the thyroid supplementation.

You will if they are insulin resistant. Highly suggest perusing this page:
