How often do you take your horse in to get an exam to check for any kind of lameness? Do you go once a year or just when you think something is off?

I try to go once (sometimes twice) a year. I go after winter when I start to get them legged back up just do a normal exam arrays (again if needed) and normal lameness exam. I will take them again if they feel off to me during the year that way I know what is going on.

My horses are always at the vet for something every few months as it is... teeth, etc. If I want my vet to look at something she will, but she, and I are " If it isint broke dont fix it" mentality. lol

Other than regular yearly maintenance, my horses don't necessarily have a yearly lameness exam, but I do seem to get one done on my good mare every year if not twice a year... she also requires regular chiro/accupuncture as we believe she may have an old hip injury that causes her pelvis to shift causing her to feel a little off to the right. Chiro with accupuncture and regular drills/exercises to try and build up the strength in her hip to hold it there is what seems to be working the best for her

Thanks everyone! Just wasn't sure. My retired mare gave me 100% all the time and realized later on she had prob been hurting for a while but kept on working and was still constantly placing in the 1D. she ended up having a sever case of kissing spine and vet said she was to old and it was to bad to be able to do surgery or inject. SO she is now retired and happy. So I just want to make sure that doesn't happen with my other. He, like her, loves his job and just wanted to make sure.

Every spring unless something happens in between. It's a cheap way to prevent bigger problems.

I've never taken one to the vet unless I have a reason. With 10+  young horses I see my vets enough!!!
