Did you train yourself to do it on both sides? I had to draw blood on Monday, then IV poly yesterday and wondering if that is too many sticks and I should learn to give it on the other side. I just feel awkward on the other side!

Do what you're most comfortable with.

I use both sides and really alternate where the needles go in. My mare runs on Lasix and Legend so I'm glad she is a good trooper. lol I would give the lasix in the muscle but she wont tolerate it in her hind quarter and I don't want to use neck muscle at a barrel race in case it makes her sore..

I can give a shot on the right if I have to.... I just feel handicapped. I'm not as comfortable and can't do it as quickly. I have a few that aren't good sticks, so I NEVER stick them on the right.

I have to put the needle in upside down on the right side and it feels really awkward, so I don't normally do it.

I can easily do IV shots on both sides, but I'm also pretty ambidextrous so that probably helps! It's especially helpful when I have sick horses and need to IV meds for several days.

Practice makes perfect. I had to give an IV shot to a mare that was lying down, with the needle downward
(I like to insert the needle upward
) and on the awkward side. I managed to hit the vein. Wonder of wonders.
