random question,

So my friends horse died of a heart attack at the rodeo yesterday. He isn't old, but I was wondering.... what causes a heart attack, why do they happen? Is there anything they could've done?

Was the horse over heated?

So many things could be the cause....congenital deformity...over-heated....out of shape and being over exerted...age...bad reaction to supplements and, of course, drugs.

I suppose unless you do a necropsy, it’ll remain a mystery. I knew a lady a few years ago whose horse dropped dead at second barrel of a heart attack. He wasn’t terribly old eithe

Did they do a necropsy to tell for sure it was a heart attack?

Same reasons humans have them. Could be anything, blood clots (anneurysm) high blood pressure, over exertion, out of shape, heat exhaustion, pulmonary embolism, etc. I knew of a non sweater that was already working hard to breath in the summer heat down here, dropped dead during exhibition with a little girl on his back. Had another one last summer also, older horse with cushings, probably should not have been ridden so hard but not our place to say anything, he dropped dead also. A lot here in central Florida.
