I'm considering purchasing a treadmill. Does anyone have recommendations? It's time to get in shape! Thanks in advance!
No specific recommendations, but I would advise you get one with a belt that's plenty long. The first one I had was older, picked up free. The belt was shorter and I couldn't stride out so running on it was a pain. I ended up giving it to goodwill within a yr, and got something else.
I had a good one. Walking on it caused soreness and achiness in my shoulders. Couldn't figure out why but I gave up on it and sold it. Later told my sister about it and she had the same experience with hers.
I have a Proform brand. I bought it 5 yeasr ago from Academy on Black Friday. It has held up well. I think it has some programs to it, but mostly I just walk and do interval jogging. It has a good incline to it as well.
Thank you for the replies.
My wife and I are both runners and while we prefer to run outside there are times when it's just not feasible. We wore out 3 of the cheaper, ($500-600), type treadmills that you get from Sears, Walmart, etc.
About 4 years ago we bought a commercial type treadmill from Ultimate Fit where we get our running shoes. We bought a Spirit brand. I didn't really want to pay $2k+ for a treadmill but it's been a worthwhile investment. It works as well today as the day it was new. And with limited maintence. It's also much quieter than the ProForm brands we have had.
But those cheaper ones would have been fine with occassional use. I run around 600 miles per year and my wife runs over 1000 miles per year. Granted most of that is outside but we use the treadmill quite a bit. Also with my weight around 210 lbs I'm pretty tough on the treadmill. How much you weigh is a huge factor in the life of a treadmill.
I bought a NordicTrack about 6 years ago and I love it. I suggest going to some stores and actually trying them out. I ran on several before I bought this one. No problems so far and I use it 3-4 times a week running or doing incline.
