Recently switched to feeding oats & rice bran due to trying to figure out what my mare is allergic to. She's had a chronic cough so wanted to take off processed feeds. She also gets good loose minerals twice daily and 1cup rice bran twice daily and alfalfa in the morning, turned out ok good coastal pasture at night.

Is there anything that needs to be added to keep fat or minerals where they need to be?

Thanks in advance :)

I just started adding whole oats to my horses alfalfa/timothy pellets for a bit more energy he's lacking. I also started using platinum performance again and I add in an oz of CEP vitality plus for B12 and vitamin E boost. So far so good.

I feed whole oats and alfalfa pellets to my adult horses (1/2 and 1/2).  They also have pasture or a round bale.

I feed whole oats, rice bran, (according to the label, Manna Pro), gro strong loose minerals and alfalfa hay.  Each horse gets more alfalfa depending on what our pastures are like (drought, winter).

During the summer I have started adding Redmond loose with garlic in it for flies.  And, I believe it has helped.

My horses are fat and happy.

Is it a strong garlicky smell? with all the rain we've had I believe the flies and mosquitoes are at an all time high. I had a few zesterra lick tubs in their stalls that had some sort of fly control but the molasses overruled it I think and it attracted more flies than I've ever seen.

Yes, you can smell the garlic.  I thought mine wouldn't eat it but they do.  I put the rice bran in the bucket, then add the Redmonds, then oats,

I also feel it makes them drink too.

I feed rolled oats and Balanced to Perfection to every horse on the farm! They get all the alfalfa they want.
