Location: Shawnee OK | For those that have fed beet pulp, how long was it before you starting seeing results when trying to put weight on a horse? I have been feeding about a week (I know that is not long enough to see results) just wondering how long really until I should see some progress? |

| It was only a few days for my hard keeper. And if I won't keep him on it he loses it just as fast. You might try upping your amount. My horse gets close to 2 pounds a day weighed dry. Soaked for 30 minutes each feeding. |

Location: Illinois | I saw results after about a month, but I wasn't doing a large amount. I just did 3/4 of a 3qt scoop dry. After soaking I squeezed all the water out I could. Once a day. Mine was 27 when I was doing it and a cushings horse, so my results might not have been the same as a normal horse without special needs. I do always try to give a feed change a full 6 weeks at minimum to gauge results, sometimes even 8 weeks. |

I'm not a fan of beet pulp but will try it if it helps my Cushings horse. What benefits did you see? How else did you treat him? |

My horse didn't seem to be a huge fan of it. he eventually started leaving it and going to steal the food of the other one he's with. I just put him on it to gain weight, he's kind of opposite the normal cushings horse and is usually way too skinny. But beet pulp is a good idea, preferably with the water drained after you soak it. It pulls extra sugars out, but you only have to worry if your cushings horse is starch/sugar sensitive. I just simplified my program to what works for all 3 of mine, Kalm N Ez since its metabolic friendly and they just have free choice alfalfa. Unless your cushings horse is metabolic too, I wouldn't worry too much. Mine has been maintained drug free for 10 years so far on just a lower nsc grain and alfalfa hay. We tried the Prascend briefly, but he went completely off feed on it so after a few attempts at dosage adjustments we gave up |
