Has anyone here ever bought horses from Brazil? Does anyone know about Pssm being a problem down there, do they test?

I think I remember a certain parasite that was prevalent down there but I don't remember what it was called and don't know if it is still a problem 

how do the horses fair from the journey to the states? 

Had a 2 year old shipped from Brazil this spring from Shannon Kerr, he traveled just fine. She took care of all the arrangements from her to quarantine in Florida. Unsure about PSSM, it's carried through certain bloodlines so if they're from one of the lines then it's probably down there. Management would be the only difference, as feed is very different down there. As far as the parasite it's probably screwworm, but there's several high risk things they have down there that we don't. They have to test clean for everything before they're allowed to leave Brazil anyway, so it's not a big deal it just can prolong the process. It's been cheaper to buy & ship here than it's been to pay US prices for the equivalent type horse in the majority of cases.

I have no ideal about the Brazilian horses and PSSM but I have owned one that had it.  Ours was manageable with the right diet and exercise program which we either rode or lunged her everyday. Honestly I see a lot of horses that I think have it but most owners thing they are colicing and tht is mainly just not realizing what PSSM looks like during an episode. Really hard to get a true diagnose for it.

I haven’t bought one myself but I know people who did. PSSM shows up there like anywhere else so testing is usually recommended. the long trip to the US can be stressful but most horses handle it fine with proper care.

I remember SK having a video about this and what she recommened for the "detox" I am sure if you message her she will be able to tell you
