Location: Where you need a paddle... Oregon! | I'm super disappointed. I traded a Cactus saddle that I had for another one. The new one is way too wide for both my horses - it's the CJ Tyler Rose.
Everything about the saddle is perfect - seat size, weight, etc. I bought a brand new 5-star at the same time I did the saddle trade and I can't even use it. I have to use an old Sharon Camarillo pad that has shims in the front just to make the saddle useable.
Do I bite the bullet and sell or trade this one? Is there a higher quality pad that I can use to make this one fit, or am I just asking for problems? Have you found it to just be smarter to get a different saddle instead of trying to find pads that help?
I've been cruising sale pages and haven't found a single saddle that I would buy even if I sold mine so I'm afraid I would have to go without for awhile. |

Location: North Dakota | It it were me, I would get a different saddle that fits properly.
Would you buy a pair of shoes that were a size too big, and just wore two or three pairs of socks all the time to make them fit? No, because it wouldn't be comfortable.
I think the same thing applies to using a saddle that is too wide on your horse, and just trying to "fix it" with a built-up pad.

Did you trade a regular Cactus barrel saddle for the CJ? |

Location: Where you need a paddle... Oregon! | I did. It was an older one and when I had called Cactus about it originally they said it wasn't one they made a lot of. It was double-skirted and really heavy and I actually questioned if it was a barrel saddle. I didn't think the bars would be so different on the CJ. |

I kind of like the bio fit pad:) |

I remember you saying in the past how heavy your saddle was and that really puzzled me but now I can understand. I have 2 CJ's and yes they are wide but they do fit my horses pretty well since I have bulkier built horses. I guess if the CJ is real wide you might be better off getting something different. Can you post a picture of the saddle on your horse? |

Location: Where we still run to look when the siren goes by. | I had a saddle that was too wide and flat for my horses, I loved the saddle and tried all sorts of different pads etc..long story short ended up with A LOT of back problems for one horse. He was fixed, for a price $$$, and I got a new saddle, the plainest, least expensive one but IT FITS and it fits ALL my horses!
In the long run you’ll be saving $$$ with a saddle that fits. |
