I am picking up a dog at the shelter tonight to foster... he is a 9yr heeler and has been an outside dog all his life... he will be an inside dog part of the time with me.... I was told he tries to mark his territory TERRIBLE indoors and I cannot have him doing this.... if I leave him at the shelter he will be euthanized due to him becoming "aggressive" when they leave his cage as he is going crazy there.... I've been researching online and have found some helpful hints and have LOTS of experience with it but I think this is going to be a tough case... he's going to be on a leash under my supervision ALL the time that is for sure.... anything that I should keep in mind that works??? I have read a little about dog diapers or something so they can't go??

I have never  used them, but I found some on Amazon.  I think keep these on him, and keep him on a leash, and as soon as he thinks about marking, correct him.  If he does do a little, it will be in diaper.  Over time, I think you can break him of the bad habit, just with the diapers, he won't be marking your house.   Good luck and thanks for fostering!

Get a can of pennies or something and shake it to interrupt him every time he tries. They HATE that.

I would also get a crate/kennel for him, so you can put him in there when you can't watch him and know he isn't marking everything you own. My Doberman hates being locked up, but she loves her kennel. She is weird, I can put her in my Boxer's kennel and she freaks out.. but in her kennel she curls up and goes to sleep until you let her out. She knows which one is hers and that is the only one she will settle down in.

That is all I have. Our males didn't mark in the house, so I am not much help.

Yes, this is great advice, I have a 12x12 outside pen for him when I cannot watch him and a big long cable to tie him out on for short periods when I have to do something that I can't watch him.

Google belly bands, they can help.  You can line them with a mini pad.   Is he neutered?  That will help if it's marking.  This can be really hard.  Be patient and try to set him up to succeed by cratiing when you're not home, as you said keeping him on leash when you are.   Thank you for saving him!

Thanks! I'm going to research them! Yep he IS neutered now but has only been neutered since he got to the shelter unfortunatly but I've heard it will still help somewhat.
