Location: Arkansas | I have read a few times this week on here and other places suggesting that if the horse was "out" of alignment then the rider should probably be looked at also. This has had me thinking about one of my horses that I dread his 1st barrel because it hurts me right above my hip on that side. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences with this? Can horses being misaligned cause the rider to be also and vice versa? It was interesting to me. |

| Yes. I have found when my horses want to drift one direction or the other just riding in the pastures that either I am out in my pelvis or they are out. Get chiro'ed and we travel straight again. Of course this is with broke horses not colts. |

| Yes. I spoke with an equine massage therapist and also my own chiro.
The way we sit on our horse dictates what part of their back is under the most pressure. If you ride listing to one side or the other, then your horse can be sore on that side. If you ride bareback, be VERY aware of where your hip/pelvis/butt bones are sitting on your horse. If you are not very well balanced, you can cause soreness on whichever side you are more prone to use. If your body is stronger on the right, you will tend to use it more and vice versa. If something is hurting you and you compensate by leaning away from it, it not only screws you up, but can effect your horse.
Hope that makes sense. |

Location: Stillwater, OK | I really believe that this is possible. Therefore I get myself worked on every time I get my horses done! I have a great chiropractor that is also a human chiropractor and she keeps both me and my horses feeling great! I have noticed that if you feel like you actually need to go to the chiropractor, you're probably worse than you think so go ahead, give it a try!! |

Location: Arkansas | I had never really thought about it before but it makes perfect sense. I know sometimes no matter how hard I try I can't seem to get myself square and down in my saddle. I used to have to get my hips worked on monthly but haven't since I quit going hard. One horse I know I am closing my eyes and locking up dreading that 'hit" when he turns. My older horse I have been getting rocked forward only on the 1st and he is sore down his right side as well. I feel like I can't sit and open my hips up in the turn to push him on around with my body if that makes sense. He isn't finishing his turns like himself. I don't use my hands alot but my seat and legs to guide my horses so I think I need some work! Nothing else, its a great excuse for a good massage!!!! |

| Maybe that's why my gelding is blowing out on the back side of the right barrel. |

I would bet money your horse is tensing up in the moments you do on the pattern......yes I do believe horses compensate for us...they tolerate alot we throw at them..
Also keep in mind, even being right or left side dominant (horse & rider) can affect everyone...... |

Location: your guess is as good as mine | The first chiro I took my horse to preferred to work on horse AND rider - he said almost every time the rider will need the same adjustment as the horse. I didn't think much about it until my lower back went out...about 5 years after he straightened out my mare's lower back lol. When I went to see my chiro it was eerie how my problems mirrored my mare's... |
