Location: ND | I don't have a "set" plan. But this is what I usually do. I like to long trot 3-4 miles a day. Lope maybe 5 collected circles each direction. (That varies because I have one mare that gets hock sore pretty easily with too much loping), then I like to walk little circles, shoulders up, hips in, giving in the poll, etc. I do this probable 5 times a week. Sometimes, I'll work barrels or poles also, or go on a trail ride.. I think they get bored with the routine after a while. I like to give one day off a week, and also just go on a trail ride, it helps their mind so much! It kinda varies because I'm riding one finished horse and one that is still just beginning to run barrels. Do what fits your horse!

Location: South MS | I like to try to ride 4 days a week - I have a 3 acre paddock with hills and I ride the fence line - walking 2-3 laps, trotting 3-4 laps, loping 3 laps each lead
Then I go to the arena and either trot or lope some more - I try to sit on my horse for 1 hour doing different exercises - I might do 4 corner barrels or triangular barrels, I might set up poles/quads/stakes - I work on my hands and body position

| Solid horses don't see the pattern or arena during the week. I keep them worked by using hills, sprints, lots of loping, chasing cows etc no set plan really. Just anything to keep their heart rate up. Sprints are for lung etc | |

| We do lots of trail riding with hills, I ride my horses 4-5 days a week, First day is a light day, the next we go on a more challenging trail or do a bit of dressage in the arena, the next day we lope and work on circles, Thursday is barrel/pole practice night or roping. Friday they usually have off or my finished mares go on a light trail, and either Saturday or Sunday we compete or go up into the mountains for a challenging trail.
I have 4 horses, all of varying places in training...so I try not to burn out my good ones but can't forget to work with the dink or get stuff done on my colt, either.

| I ride 4 days a week. First day I like to do all exercises at a walk/trot off the pattern. I do circles, long trot, serpentines, counter arcs, and hind work. Day 2 slow work on and off the pattern. I build on top of day 1. Day 3 I work on the barrels. Day 4 I typically dont have a plan, I like to fart around in the arena or out on the trail. After every ride I like to go on a 10-15 min trail ride to cool down. | |

Am I really the Weirdo?

Location: Kansas | I usually compete on the weekends, very rarely during the week, so my horses generally have Monday & Tuesday off entirely. They get to eat & poop and if they happen to run around and exercise themselves, that's a bonus. Wednesday, I'll generally ride or pony each of them for a 20-30 minute workout depending on their attitude, how they worked last weekend, where they're running this weekend, and how much time I have. I always ride either in my dad's hay fields or in a huge hay field across the road. The big field has some short, steep hills and I like to long trot up those a few times. There are a ton of "routes" I can ride in that field so the horses and I don't get bored. Thursday they get a similar workout, but I usually have more time on Thursdays so I'll try to ride each horse indiviudally instead of ponying two off my rodeo horse. If I do hills one day, I don't do them the next day. I might do some interval work, lope for a minute or so, then break to a trot, then back to a lope, just back and forth type of thing, or if I have one who's been really sluggish leaving barrels I might do some rollbacks and hustle him out of the turn. I very rarely breeze mine on purpose. Fridays - they'll often compete or they'll get a light trail ride in preparation for a Saturday race.
I really just aim to keep them legged up and I watch how they're breathing as we go through those longer workouts Wednesday & Thursday to gauge if we need to extend a workout the next week. I don't do much if any pattern work at home. If I've had a particular problem, I might walk through the barrels a couple times, but they're set up on grass so no running at home for me.
