I have a question about OnStar....

My free trial is up 5/6/14 and it says that I am scheduled for Continued Coverage (or something like that... it's supposed to start charging me monthly..

Do you HAVE to have a plan?  It has me down now for the 29.99/month that includes directions (I RARELY use my OnStar... mostly just to use up the call minutes if my cell phone is messing up and I need to make an emergengy call) and I NEVER use their directions, but I see there is a 19.99/month plan.  I would like to still get the monthly diagnostics reports (I swear I have a new recall every month!!).... but if I can only get that by paying $19.99/month then I don't really want it that bad.

Do I have to call them to get out of the continued coverage?  I can only find ways to change your plan and card information on their website.. I can't see anywhere to just opt out or cancel completely.

Mine is 12.99 per month and that's just the emergency thing and monthly diagnostics. You will probably need to call.

Just push the blue onstar button and they will hook you up! Mine is something like 13.00 a month.

I've always been able to get better prices when I call them from my phone at home. It seems they like to try to rip you on prices when you use the On Star button. This has been our experience on my husband's Caddy's since 2006.

My OnStar is $14 per month for emergency service - I do not have the phone service. I hate to cancel mine because I know as soon as I do I will need it . I have locked my keys in my truck a few times .... Love OnStar for unlocking my doors !!

Found out the hard way if you don't have Onstar turned on, if the vehicle is stolen there is no way to turn the Onstar on to find it.

I love having the OnStar because I have an app on my phone that I can unlock, lock, remote start, send directions to my navigation system in both my vehicles (Tahoe & 3500 truck).  It also tells me how much fuel, oil life, air in my tires, etc plus the emergeny phone.  I think it's well worth it.  If you are ever in an accident or your vehicle stolen, OnStar would be a huge plus.

Thanks, everyone!  I'll call and see if I can get them talked down to the $13-14/month plan!

I had forgotten about the anti-theft aspect of it!  We knew a guy who had to use it and they stopped the truck.  I didn't know that the anti-theft part wouldn't work if you didn't have a plan.  Reason enough to have a plan for me!
