I noticed your horses tail swishing and my first thought is soreness.. hind end..another reason he is breaking gaits.
I also feel you need to lose the spurs. hes trying hard but I think to much leg and kicking and it is upsetting him. he appears to really be trying for you.can you get lunge line lessons possibly? Im not being rude just critiqueing..

Hello!!! Thanks for the reply yes he's been tail swishing not exactly sure what the problem is and when I put my legs on him I'm not spuring him the only time I spur is around the barrel usually a little going home but i can't lounge my horse he rears so I wouldn't be able to lounge him when I'm on his back he is getting back into being ridden after this crappy winter he needs a lot of work still I barely get lessons only like once every couple months so I've been doing it on my own I might have to get him checked from the tail swishing he has worms so that could be a little of the problem were getting that fixed thanks so much!

Anytime your leg/foot is on the horse, you're spurring them. Your feet are in contact with your horse constantly, regardless of whether or not you're cuing him. So he's feeling that spur in his side pretty much constantly.

Not being, mean, just an observation. Spurs are for lateral movement, not speed.

That's the first thing I noticed in the video and I was going to say the same thing. Lose the spurs. Your boots are a lot more forgiving without long pointy things on them. :)

Hi there from the first video it appears hes getting jabbed per stride in certain times and when you halt and back up.. your toes are out and spurs might be tapping him... maybe you dont realize it? maybe why tail is swishing as well. some horses dont do well with spurs..

You seem to be a very balance rider and got quiet hands, but I agree with the others, get rid of the spurs, do you really need them? Your horse seems to be unhappy and I think its the spurs. Looks like a nice fella.

My mare was doing the same type of things, swishing her tail, pinning her ears, etc and I took my spurs off and wow, what a different horse. She actually started to enjoy running barrels. I do put them on occasionally when I ride at home because she is a little lazy, but I watch my feet and don't jab her with them just exercising at home. She tends to just need a little waking up at times. Hope this helps!

I like that you are a quiet rider.

I agree with the others. Lose the spurs - they are NOT meant for speed.

Also - I would get him to a reputable lameness vet. The tail swishing and breaking gaits are a cause for concern. Tail swishing is not caused by worms.
