My mare just has started doing this, any ideas or experience? I've been to the vet checked for infection and/or any pain. No infections and they could not palpate any pain. She had been sutured previously. From what I've read it is usually from pain or nerves. Maybe I'll try a calming supplement? She has only done it once and then we went to vet, not sure where to go from here.

Did you take her to your local vet or a lameness specialist?

Both, Not my vet of choice but it was an equine lameness vet. I just don't have a great deal of faith in them but they were close. Have you seen this from lameness?

Did she start this after removing the suture?

Look at her kidneys. I have seen this many times and a supplement for a kidney detox usually does the trick.

I have not removed her suture.
How would I check kidneys, this was my thought too but I've checked blood and did an ultrasound of kidneys. She's had back pain in the past but now her back is super soft, better than she's been.
Her bladder was a little enlarged vet said maybe that could be the cause but wasn't real sure. This again would make me think kidneys.

If they are sore, you can run your fingers along her back just below the spine with light-moderate pressure. If she has a reaction when you get to her lower back, I would say it is her kidneys. It won't always show up on blood work either.

This is all just my opinion and from my personal experiences.
