My mare has a bone spur in her left stifle that I had injected. Made a world of difference. Will try to have surgery done this winter but that depends on $$. I try to cold hose it after big workouts and runs. What else can I do? What do you do for pre- existing stifle issues on running horses?

Do you think a bot sheet would help?

Yes a BOT sheet will help.  Also a good joint supplement such as Platinum CJ and you might add longevity and Osteon.  Then I would do Polyglycan and Pentason.

She's on THE muscle mass with joint/ arthritis added. She has had Pentosan in the past (I still have some) but I have been able to put her on Adequan. Not sure if I should do both or 1. I thought like adequan once a month and pentosan twice a month on normal riding/ running schedule and extra adequan if there's a 2-3 day race.

How much in advance should I give the "extra" adequan for the 2-3 day races? Day of first day?

I have a young horse that I did fenstration on when he was 5, he is 6 this year. I would feel the tell tale sign of him dropping a hind leg in a hole once or twice on a 4.5 mile gallop. I thought about a month or two ago that I would swim him once it warmed up. I have had no time so I sent him to swim for the month. I had him medically cleared prior to hauling him there. He had a spinal series and stifle series of X-rays. To my delight the vet found nothing to keep him from swimming. The horse was doing great on jackpot ground but take him to a rodeo and he would not anchor down on the left hand turn at high speeds. The first (left) barrel was once wicked so I thought that I needed to address his rapid growth period with the fenstration and lots of hill work. (I purchased an incline treadmill; he would do works on a 7 degree hill for 12-15 min.) daily. Over the last several months I've not had time nor my husband to ensure that he is worked daily. I felt like he may have gone down in performance ( he's still placing in the top 10 in 150-200 head) instead of forward, thus the change in plan.
I use Game Ready and ice on stifles, after all hard works or a run.
I also did a 5 week prep before I ran at the last couple of rodeos of Pentosan. He bled on me so I'm not going to do any other preps that will potentially cause that issue. If he needs to have his joints injected should he show lameness I will inject directly.
OP, If your horse has a spur that could cause damage I would not run until that spur is removed. What has that spur been cause from?

My vet suggests Polyglycan and Pentason at the same time. Polyglycan IV and Pentason in the muscle.

so has the incline treadmill helped your horse?

I believe it did. Life has taken over and horses are on the back burner. He was doing good when I had time for him daily. No more slips felt when I rode him. I gave them all a good break and bam I learned my lesson.
