Does anybody know how to hire a dietician/nutritionist?

My husband and I are ready to bust a move on our health. We would like to see someone that will do a full physical analysis, and help design healthy food schemes that will work for two super active, though a bit (estimate 10-15 lbs, via internet calculators) chubby.

What we don't know how to do, is how to sort the quality from the quacks. We're really wanting to make a difference in our health, without having to waste precious and hard to obtain time away from work on some dang quack!

Does anybody know where to start?

Ask your gp... Your health insurance will probably cover it to if your dr refers you

Do you have a hospital close or a gym. I know our hospital has a dietician and a gym may have a trainer and dietician.

Wanna drop weight and feel great? For FREE?Lets look at some facts..... physiological response:When you don't love and accept yourself as you are, you have self-hatred thru your thoughts, your words and your actions, then your serotonin levels drop. When your serotonin levels drop you get depressed. When you are depressed what do you want to do? Eat.Also low serotonin levels lowers the metabolism which decrease calorie burn. No matter what you do its hard to drop weight/keep it off. Here's the deal, take your peace and quit trashing yourself verbally about who you are, about yourself, about God, about other people, thenyour hypothalamus will recognize your fulfillment. Your hypothalamus will trigger the penile gland to release serotonin and you will be in perfect balance and in perfect peace. You will be complete and not "need" food.(spirit, soul, mind connection)-Foods teaching at Be In Health

My goodness, Hummer. Thanks, I guess. I don't want to lose weight quickly. I want to learn how to eat properly. I've maintained the same weight through highschool (15 years ago) and work out regularly and ride almost every day. Super active. Very healthy. Very blessed. No self hatred. Husband the same story. He's a professional bullfighter. Very athletic.

We really need to invest in our health and find out what we could do better for the long run. What type of questions should we be asking on the phone before hand? We really would like full body analysis, etc. Tracking weight and calories online is fine, but there's no professional hands on help to see the gaping holes in your program. I do it for my horses, it's time to do it for us! Thanks for the help I've received in the pm's, if anybody has anything else, please do chime in!

I'm not sure how to find a good one. My hubby's step-mother is a registered dietician, has a MS degree in nutrition. We got in a fight last winter because my son has special dietary needs and she insisted a carb was a carb and I'm an idiot for thinking differently (even tho I'm the one feeding the child daily and noting his responses).  She ignored my rules, fed him pancakes with syrup when I wasn't in the house, he got sick and puked when his sugar dropped.  Thanks, biatch.

The nutritionist we worked with at AR Children's Hospital was great.  Education and certification don't necessarily mean anything.
