Am I really the Weirdo?

Earlier this year, my vet sold me a bottle of Legend to give my old campaigner Joker, who I then turned out to pasture for the better part of two months because of the EHV outbreak and my June rodeo schedule. I didn't give him the shot because I wasn't running him but now I'm going to start hauling him again some this fall so I'd like to go ahead and use the Legend. The big problem now is that I can't remember the vet's instructions on when & how to give it. I'll for sure want to run him Sept. 13th weekend but might take him somewhere the weekend before. So all you Legend experts, please let me know what your plan of attack is with it.

Melanie - this is what I use for Dinero - 4 shots  every three months - IV - you can do it the day before the week before, or you can give it to him now.

I should explain better - only one shot every 3 months = 4 shots a year. Sorry.  you just have a small bottle right I think it is like 5 or 7 cc's.?

So it has to be given IV? Crap. Now I remember that being discussed and Doc trying to show me how. I am a needlephobe and so is Joker so this probably is a really bad idea for us to do together! Seems like I wasted that money. I can't recall how small the bottle is and I'm at work.

There has been a story repeated many times that Charmayne was the only one who truly figured out how to use Legend- she supposedly gave a shot every time she went thru the alley for a money run.

Anyhow- I was taught to give it 36-48 hours prior to peak demand. It starts immediately and is good 24-48 and finishes losing strength by 72 hours- so great for a weekend show with 3 runs. In my simple little mind it is like a super dose of bute without the side effects of long term use, although I know it is more than that.

This is what I heard as well, but in addition to it's anti-inflammatory effects I believe it also helps the cartilage?

I wasnt under that assumption. But I could totally be wrong! I thought Adequan was continually working to preserve cartilege (sp?) and Legend more so lubricates the joint and removes inflamation temporarily?? Anyone know specs for sure? I guess I can go google.

But I do know for a fact, we had a customer horse go on the trailer very sore (against our advice) and we were told to give the Legend and when we unloaded the horse I would say 50% better!! Then the next day, the horse won the world title in the roping. If I could afford it I would give it every week. And I sure enough know some top notch winners who do.

Maybe it was because it decreases inflammation, it then helps preserve the cartilage that is remaining due to the removal of harmful cytokines, etc.

Honestly, I probably should google as I do not remember either LOL

You are correct about the adequan
