Location: North Dakota | Hey ladies and gents! I've got a 8 year old gelding that we've had for a year and a half now! He's a good riding horse, no non sense or anything to him! First off he is a bugger to catch recently. And once you catch him he is very skiddish! When we walk up to him to brush him at the trailer he will lean back and get very stiff! He will act like this even while you saddle him! Once he is saddled he will ride out no problems but if someone reaches out a hand to pet him he will again lean back on all four legs and tense up! Any ideas or suggestions to try and fix this issue? |

| Try getting him adjusted. My mare got randomly ear shy... like extremely, to the point where she thought anything moving towards her was going for her ear and it was gonna kill her, we though she had a tick in there or something, but when the vet looked there was nothing. He adjusted her poll, even though she didn't show any pain there, and after that she was back to normal. |

Location: North Dakota | Yea we are going to have him adjusted next time the chiro is in town! He almost acts like someone beat on him before! Ulcers also came to mind but I want to rule out everything else before u test and treat for that! He is such a good horse and has a lot of potential! He is one that you can't let your guard down with! |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | Clinton Anderson has a tying exercise that I bet would help him. You don't tie them hard, you loop ot through so if they decide to pull it will pull through. Basically literally run up and then you rub them all over flat handed. A lot of horses panic if you come up too quick and this helps with that. I would also check his vision and make sure his sight is alright. |

Location: Alberta | Not sure if anyones chiropractor has mentioned to them the impact pinched nerves can have on horses eye sight....when the right nerves are pinched due to subluxation it can reduce blood flow, and in the right area can affect their eye sight....good luck...

Spend LOTS of time doing all the stuff you mentioned, that makes him nervous. Massage him all over in a nice calm setting and get him accustomed to being touched all over.
Good luck!

| an old timer told me a trick for those hard to catch horses... the ones that run from one end of the pasture to the other. Tie a fairly large, heavy nut(to a bolt) into the forelock. every time the horse tries to run from you the bolt will bounce and cause a very annoying and unpleasant feel on their forehead. They will then begin to just walk so that it wont bounce anymore. I've never tried it because I sold the nasty witch, but if you've ever had to chase a horse back and forth over 80 acres you will become desperate to try anything. |
