What's your experience with it? Mine is aluminum and it has had grayish streaks coming down from the top of it for years. Regular washing won't get rid of it. Someone told me it is glue from the roof. Whatever it is, I'd really like to get it gone.

I believe you can only acid wash aluminum if it's bare.

Take it to a truck wash station and have them do it.
It is only like 40 bucks and your trailer comes out shining like a new dime and no black streaks. I wouldnt recommend doing it yourself because you have to get the acid off pretty quickly, but I took mine and was in and out in less than 30 minutes.

Ditto!!.....And...don't acid wash it on a day when you expect rain or if you have to pull it back and forth on wet roads...the acid opens the pores in the aluminum and any dirty rain or road water will get in the pores and when the pores close with the dirt on it, it will never come off...ever!  The pores close about 48 hrs. after being acid washed....so keep it on dry ground through that period...

I'm definitely not doing it myself. Is acid washing them what they normally do at a truck/trailer washing place? Or is it something else?

..... or I guess it would depend on the particular place you take it to.

I do it every Spring. its cheap to buy a gallon of the acid at auto supply place.  AB-50 is what the bottle i have say's on it. dilute with water, I do a section at a time and rinse off. takes all day to a big trailer but looks so good when its done.
