| MTG (Mane-Tail-Groom) How often do you use it for mane and tail growth? How long do you keep it on? Results? I used it for a couple of months and put it on weekly in the mane and saw a little difference, but I feel like I'm not using it enough. Never used it on the tail but want to try! |

| We use MTG for not only mane and tail growth, but also for sweet itch and other things. For mane use in the winter we put it on once a week, a little goes a long way! So be careful not to put too much. You just want to put it at the roots of the mane. What I always do (as I'm a shorty) is stand on a bucket, part the horses mane in the middle down each side of his neck so the roots are exposed, then dribble it down the length of his mane. If any runs onto his neck I wipe it off. Rub in with your fingers. It will make the mane a dirt magnet if you have a light maned horse, but don't worry, it will was right out when we bathe them. In summer for mane I use it twice a week, normally put it on on Saturday, wash them Wednesday, and re-apply. Makes their manes look great, but you wont notice a huge difference for a month or more. And consistency is the key. If the mane gets too icky in the winter, I'll wait for a warm day and wash it. Ideal would be once a week.
For tails, I do once a week in the winter, same as manes, I part the tail as close to the tailhead as possible and dribble a little then rub it in with my fingers all the way down the tail shaft. And then part at the tip of the tail and put a little there. Do not put any under the tail, like on the bottom of their tail where it can touch their "personal place" as some horses get irritated. Not many, but some. In summer I do it the same as the manes. My one gelding used to have no mane and now that I have been using it for about 6months his mane is past his chest and his tail drags the ground about 4 inches. Some horses just don't grow a mane no matter what you try, but for most, especially tails, it does really help. If nothing else it makes their tails a lot softer and not dry and brittle like so many get to be in the summer months.
ETA: fixed all my phone misspells of it wanting to spell mane 'main"

Location: In The Snow, AZ | I've been using it for about two months on our herd. Had to start using it because my gelding chewed off half of BILs horse's tail and I felt bad. I haven't used on manes mainly because its a winter time hassle. For tails, I used a bunch of detangler to get them more manageable. Separated the hair down the tail bone and applied down. Rubbed it in really well. Pulled excess down into the tail hair. Braided. Folded up and wrapped. I do it once a week. I've noticed a large difference on my mare in particular. Hers has grown around 4-5 inches in that time span and looks phenomenal. Thick and shiny, which isn't normal for her during the mucky winters. Will be starting manes when the weather warms up. |

I think there is a pinned thread at the top of this forum that is horse home remedies or something. There are all sorts of different options that are much healthier than chemicals to get the hair to grow. A supplement fed from within may also be a better option.
I stopped using MTG after it burned my mares face from draining down from her forelock...
Best of luck. Hopefully it was just my mares sensitive skin and you don't have an issue. I didn't use it long enough to see an improvement. |

| Be careful on thin skinned horses - I have one that is fine with a once weekly application - the other, had a major reaction to it. The only time I applied it on her, 24 hours later she had large raised blister like bumps and the skin was tender along her mane. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | They have a newer version of it that smells better. I have some but haven't used it yet. I have used it on hundreds of horses and never had one yet have a negative effect, but having heard that others do, I try and be more careful when using it. If using to get hair to grow back, I'll apply at the base of the mane and tail about every other or every 3 days. I guess I don't wash it out. By the next application not much is left. washing and brushing is what pulls hair out so the more you can just leave them be the better. I use the 3 tube type tail bags to braid tails and leave them in one for quite a while. Then wash with water and condition and rewrap. Manes I think is a lot genetic. |
