Expert Posts: 2685	I started my gelding on the ProForce fuel about a month ago now. As of yesterday he is refusing to eat it. He will eat any other grain I have in the feed room so I don't think its ulcers. I had started him on Cosequin shortly after starting this feed and he would shake his head like it tasted funny but always ate it. I don't know if I have made him mad or what...

Jr. Detective Location: Beggs, OK	Because of everything that we are learning with feed contamination these days, it would be worth testing your feed anytime a horse refuses to eat it....especially if they'll eat another kinds of feed. I have learned that you cannot be too careful, and ProForce Fuel is made by Nutrena.

Bulls Eye Posts: 6443 Location: Oklahoma	Mine did the same thing about the time all these feed issues starting coming to light. I have quit feeding it and mine have been off it for a month now. I will be starting to feed Blue Bonnet Omega in the near future.

I ran into some problems w/Nutrena that made me switch and i loved their feed when it was good.. but the inconsistency made me switch... I used to use the mare/foal, the original, and the special care... different times i'd get mare/foal and or original and it'd be clumpy or dusty.. sometimes i'd notice it was actually darker or lighter in color than the previous batch.. i thought my eyes were playing tricks on me but i still had some bags of the previous stuff i had bought and so i opened one ofthose and one of the new batch and sure enough - different color - dark vs light brown... which makes me think they are using formulas differently not just ingredients but amt of the ingredients.. i knew they weren't fixed formula but this was obvious.. im sure it tasted different and acted differently in their system w/that much of a noticeable color difference... then last straw was the special care.. it is advertised.. corn free.. low starch.. etc.. i have 1 IR horse and so his feed NEEDS to be low starch.. well i noticed i could see could kernals in the pellets!! I could visibly see that there was corn in it - it was so noticeable - not jus tlike small yellow specks but actual kernal pieces... so obviouly they didn't clean out the mixer before it went in or just accidentally mixed corn in with the feed mix - either way clear Contamination.. of course it wasn't poisonous like the cattle feed.. but if they can accidentally do that.. what is accidentally going in that i can't see... i switched immediately. i stopped buying nutrena.. i switched to renew gold and never looked back. One thing i'll add too - in the last year.. i had 4 or 5 cases of mild colic.. 2 that the vet had to be called.. all of which i administed banamine on to help - so bad enough horses were in distress.. no tie up or impaction.. just belly aches.. can't help but wonder if it didn't have somethin to do with the feed.. it was during that time i was noticing the issues.. summer time last year.. i switched to renew gold in october no issues since. and i hadn't had a horse colic in 10+ years before that - so kinda strange...

Veteran Posts: 288	Also, I have had just about every horse I've ever had quit eating the really high fat feeds once they get topped off. I've only fed ultium and a regional feed we have here in the PNW that's similar to ultium and they will go off it eventually. I've heard more than one person say tje same thing. Since this is kind of a similar feed fed for a similar purpose, I'd keep that in mind
