Thanks, I will lower it! The curb is as loose as it will go and I was wondering if it was still so tight because I had it too high up. |

Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | I have always been told to have the shanks low like it was an actual bit. So imagina mouth piece and adjust it so there would be a slight wrink if it were a bit. |

Location: North Dakota | I would start lower too, but would like to add, that if you need more of something, adjust accordingly. If you need more bend lower with a loose curb, if you then need more whoa, tighten the curb, if you still need more whoa, raise the hack a hole or two and keep the curb tighter. There are so many ways to skin a cat with a hack, you really just need to experiment. I've seen several horses compete in that hack at that height on their face.......but your starting point should be lower, IMO. Remember a hack is generally not a pull and force type tool, you should learn to slightly bump to get the desired result. If you hang onto it for too long they will just get to powering through it, most of the time. (similar to riding in a halter) they will loose respect for it in a hurry if you don't release. |
