Location: wherever my gypsy soul lands | What types of excercies or drills do you use to teach your big horses (16.2) how to get their hip under them? He's off the track and can't quite master getting his hip under him so he's drifting on even medium size circles. |

| Roll backs on the fence. Come into the fence at a 45° angle, stop roll back and then make a circle, and repeat. Also make sure you're helping him by moving your heel back and pushing his hip over. You should be able to move his hips and shoulders independently, if you can't do that with him you're going to have a hard time teaching him to keep his hip underneath him. Also make sure you're not letting him get flat, keep him collected from his poll to his butt, pushing him into your hands. Move each rein by itself, I wouldn't say seesaw, but squeeze one hand- release-squeeze the other. It'll help soften his mouth and bring him under you. |

| I like putting four barrels in a square with about 40 feet between them. Mine never has a chance to do anything but really keep his hip under him, because in three strides he's at the next barrel. I start at a walk, then a trot, etc, and if he gets flustered, we slow back down and then build up speed again. |

Location: wherever my gypsy soul lands | He has been vetted top to bottom and all maintenance given that he needed. I rode him tonight and worked on getting him to two track and push his hip up and under at a walk and trot. Then a few rollbacks like described above. It was like riding a whole different horse. Thank you all for the help! |

| On my big guy I do a lot of up and down hills. Just at a walk or slow trot. This has really helped build his hind up. Also shortening and lengthing his stride |
