If you train and ride hard then you won't notice and neither will they. My dad joked that I was going to slow if we had time to notice that blink mid turn.

I agree that if the horse is focused on his job, he shouldn't notice. I don't usually even notice the flash and have never really felt my horse react, either. That said, as a photographer, I've often times had people ask me to not take their picture because they're worried their horse will spook.
