I just ordered a clover bit and it is just about my last ditch effort to get my horse to work right.  She was a reiner before I started her on barrels and had only had a smooth O-ring snaffle used on her.  So now on barrels, the O-ring is not enough control.  Surprisingly for being a reiner, she is not stiff, but is a little rubber-necked.  The bits I have tried tend to be too much for her, such as Dutton 3 piece mouth shanks with no gag, another lifter with no gag, smaller mouthpiece, etc., etc.  I won't go through the list of everything I've tried!  Oh, and she bucked with a hackamore.  So I won't go there again.  She is pretty light mouthed and supple, just can't use that O-ring in a run.  Wondering if anyone has used the clover bit and what did you like or not like about it?

Great!  Thank you very much for that information.  Can't wait to get it.

The Goostree Simplicity with no chin strap is what worked best on my ex-reiner. Until I started using that, he would blow by the 1st barrel (he was push button on the 2nd and 3rd).

I considered a Simplicity bit and I still may get one, too.  Thanks!

I just got the large twist snaffle.  I have several dog bone mouthpieces in other bits that I have used on her and they don't impress her, LOL.  I figured since she was ridden in her earlier years with an O-ring snaffle I would go back to that mouthpiece in the clover.

I'm really afraid that she may turn out to be one that has all the ability, but not the want to.  Hope that's not the case, because at my age I ain't got a lot of time to put into another one and I'm too poor to buy a finished horse!

I'm another one that's a huge fan of the simplicity for transitioning out of the snaffle.

I think going to any bit with zero gag, from a snaffle, is a really hard adjustment for most of them and something that should be eased into. It doesn't surprise me that the bits you mentioned were too much for her.
