| Anyone familiar with king bloodlines? What traits/personalities are they known for? Thanks! I have a new mare, not sure what I want to do with her yet. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/mbkingsbluesister

| We had a grandson of King, he was awesome. However, he had more cow than run. He didn't like barrels, and would barely run, but he would blast you out of the back end when he came out of the roping box. He was built like a brick outhouse, beautiful golden palomino, we could put anyone on him and he would do just about anything you asked of him. Great personality, we all loved him dearly. We bred and raised him, and when we lost him in 2005, even the tough ole cowboys, my dad and husband cried. Lucky you, enjoy your King horse.
Meant to add, King was known as "the Man O' War of Old Mexico". He was a racehorse who had a lot of cow.

| Have 2 of them. Both are very handy all-around horses. We can do anything under the sun on them. Though they can be bullies turned out with other horses. Very smart but are more willing if you befriend them first. Both are very athletic. Neither will blow you away with their speed, but the one that is King top and bottom will bend in half and swallow up a turn. Really neat horses! |

Location: Illinois | My black horse is King bred, the one in my photo. Laziest animal you'll ever meet. Only moves as much as necessary for survival unless I'm making him. You have to ask him for every inch of each step, even just walking around. Sleeps like a cat, he's always napping. I had him at college with me years ago & I'd get pulled out of class all the time because they would see him laying down for hours and he wouldn't get up. No, that's just him. He lays down more than he stands up daily. He hates being loved on, he's fine standing near you, but would rather you not pet him. He doesn't spook at anything though and he'll make effort to do what I ask of him, he just does as minimal as possible. His life motto is "minimal effort." He's got a super smooth turn style, he's not athletic at all. He's got the grace of a hippo out of water, the earth shakes when his feet hit the ground, his bone structure is rock solid. Has fetlocks the size of most horse's knees. You could take a baseball bat to a leg and not affect it at all I think. Huge feet, wears a size 1 shoe that my farrier even has to make slightly larger. He's a nice horse minus his lazy nature, but there's no speed to him. He maxes out in the 3D.

Location: Wherever the Army sends my husband | I had a King/ Wimpy bred mare years ago. She was a team penning horse that I did local paydays with. She became super consistent, was gritty and tough as nails. Laid back and could do just about anything with her. But she lacked speed. She won 6 or 7 buckles and a saddle but just at local competitions. What I wouldn't give to have crossed her on some run. |

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | Years ago I had a granddaughter of King P-234. She was also heavily Blackburn bred -- totally QH foundation.... she was just over 16 hands. Buckskin and could fly. The mare was practically unbeatable in barrels racking up 26 saddles for wins.... Her style was before her time -- could have run today easily as she never slowed down around a barrel. She was quite an athlete, beautiful mover and as I said - she could flat out run. |
