So I just noticed this two days ago but I think the pressure of my treeless saddle pushing down on top of my saddle pad is making a white mark on his withers. My next step is buying a 5 Star with a high wither cutout. Has anyone ridden their treeless in a saddle pad like this? Or do I need to sell this saddle and buy a treeless saddle that can be perched up better for higher withered horses?

What kind of pad are you using now??? I use a Saddleright which does not push down on the withers.

What brand of Treeless saddle are you using? And what type of saddle pad? My Treeless saddles were never a problem..

I wouldn't recommend one with a big cut out area. The pad conforms to the back, any big cut out could cause bigger pressure point issues

I'm using a regular five star pad that's 3/4 thick. The brand of treeless saddle on using right now is a hilason, which I know isn't there best but that's what I could afford at the time when I was looking for one.

ETA: here's a picture

http://i65.tinypic.com/2dj293s.jpg white hairs

As you can see it's not very much right now but rather get it stopped now before it gets bigger or worse

Here's also a picture of where the saddle pad is laying on him after a ride and the shape of his withers http://i68.tinypic.com/2dly55.jpg

Aren't those hairs up in his mane on his neck?? Does your saddle even sit up that far? My horse is a plain sorrel and he's got little white hairs in random spots all over. I wouldnt even give those a second thought.

Do you have pictures of your horse tacked up? How far up does your saddle sit? Cause all I saw was white hair in the mane, for some strange reason I can't get the pictures to show up again to look closer at the pictures. But would like to see how your saddle is sitting.

It may be a simple fix of sliding your saddle back...it shouldn't be that far forward.
I finally got in the habit of moving mine further back than "normal" and it made a big difference in how my horses work.
