Took my horses to the vet today for lameness exam. My 24yo gelding checked out great!! Vet told me he wished he knew the formula for why some horses stayed sound well into their senior years!  I was super happy and excited and of course so was my checkbook!

That is great, I have two in their early 20’s that I sure wish were still running, both have chips in front knees that they got from accidents.

I know there are some that probably frown that he's still running.  But he WANTS to! First at the gate, jealous when he's not being worked, jumps right in the trailer, goes right in the gate, and is still running consistently 3D in the open.
This just made me feel good to know that he's physically capable and not hurting even though he's what some would consider pretty ancient.
Once my filly is going, he will get retirement (hopefully he'll get to retire after this year), but HE'S not going to like it!

I think it is great he is still running!  Just like people, the more active you stay the better shape you stay in.
